Kyank

An Indigenous Wellness Hearth

The design vision and implementation for Kyank center around the concept of the Hearth. Familiar images, colors, iconic references, and cultural symbols are seen and felt in the finishes, furnishing, and accessories. The interior architecture's inspiration is the topographic nature and buildings of historic Armenia, known as the land of the sun. These are represented in curvilinear forms that convey the impression of being embraced and protected. Culturally important symbols, birds, peacocks, pomegranates, and the color red, appear in the textiles, accessories, and menus at Barev Bistro and Pomegranate Bar.

Proxemics and cultural milieu were important; Primary two-way circulation paths exceeded minimum requirements to provide easy access for wheelchairs, mobility aids, and non-disabled accompanying guests.
